The Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa in Johannesburg has been voted best hotel across four categories at the 26th World Travel Awards, including South Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel and Africa’s Leading Boutique Hotel for 2019.
The hotel’s recently renovated Nelson Mandela Platinum Suite, formerly frequented by the late South African president himself, was also honoured as South Africa’s Leading Hotel Suite and Africa’s Leading Hotel Suite.
This month’s ceremony also saw the beautiful Shambala Private Game Reserve – the Saxon’s sister property situated in the heart of the Limpopo Province – claim prizes for both Africa’s Leading Private Game Reserve and South Africa’s Leading Private Game Reserve.
A renowned institution across Johannesburg and hidden away in the leafy Sandhurst neighbourhood, The Saxon is home to 53 luxurious suites, three sumptuous dining venues supplied by an organic rooftop garden, numerous conference facilities and the tranquil, two-storey Saxon Spa.
The Saxon’s Managing Director, George Cohen, said:
“The acknowledgement by the World Travel Awards is truly an honour; even more so as the votes come from not only our peers, but our guests as well.”
The awards follow new refurbishments across the hotel’s exclusive villas, the introduction of innovative fine-dining restaurant, Grei, under Chef Candice Philip, and new treatment concepts devised by Saxon Spa manager, Tanya Lopes.
Leading the way among luxury safari properties with a commitment to conservation, Shambala Private Game Reserve provides guests across its eight elegant chalets with the ultimate bushveld experience, offering game drives, bushwalks, sundowner cruises on the Douw Steyn Dam and treatments at the idyllic Shambala Spa, all enhanced by traditional braai evenings and delicious seasonal meals freshly prepared by on-site master chefs and an excellent selection of fine South African wines.
