Where: GRANTLEY HALL – Ripon, Yorkshire

Why: Nestled at the heart of the superlative Savoyard resort town of Courchevel, Airelles Couchevel is built in the prestigious Jardin Alpin domain and has a prime location on the edge of the 1850 ski slopes. These include the rooftoop L’Oiseau Blanc which has a sensational view the Eiffel Tower, Le Rooftop which hides a ‘Secret Table’ for two, La Terrasse Kléber, that has launched a delightfully liveried Peninsula Ice Cream Cart, wood lined Le Bar Kléber and Le Lobby, welcoming guests for Peninsula’s iconic afternoon tea.

Why: A total mind and body reset, Buchinger Wilhelmi specialises in therapeutic fasting and integrative medicine on the shores of Lake Constance. The team comprises seven doctors who span an array of specialisms from rheumatology to naturopathy, homeopathy to diabetes, as well as massage therapists, counsellors, nutritionists and personal trainers, who all help empower individuals and provide support for long-lasting physical and mental wellbeing.

Importantly at Buchinger Wilhelmi, physical and culture activities throughout a stay are also of paramount importance and include yoga, hiking, meditation, music concerts, art classes, cooking demonstrations and spa treatments.

Why: The Phoenicia Malta is an iconic architectural gem, steeped in history with landscaped gardens extending to the fortified city walls of Valletta. The city – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – resides as a fairly undiscovered gem with a myriad of historical attributes. A stunning new spa and wellness centre opened its doors at the hotel in 2020 for soul-soothing pampering. A visit to Valletta is a chance to discover a deep history harking back to the Neolithic times – with the Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and British all claiming rule over the centuries – whilst by night a casual yet effervescent vibe permeates within the city walls. Not to be missed are the picturesque neighbouring islands of Comino and Gozo – the former a nature reserve with a permanent population of three people and the latter deemed on of the Mediterranean’s most revered diving sites.

Why: Located in the heart of the city, a few steps from the exclusive Paseo de Gracia, the historic Gothic Quarter and the emblematic Ramblas, the hotel we know today as El Palace Barcelona was born as the former Ritz of Barcelona. It’s a wonderful historic hotel, more than 100 yrs old, completely renovated in 2017, which offers dazzling décor, delightful dining and theatrical public spaces, alongside serene, neo-classically-inspired bedrooms, including beautifully appointed Art Suites and the Ronny Wood Suite, designed by Eva Chang following the artist’s proposals.
